Orange 22
5” tall x 9.5” diameter. Stained glass mosaic and enamel on blown-glass vessel.
This vessel started as a clear glass bowl. I painted the outside of the bowl with enamel. Then I got stuck for six years. Yes, really. For 6 years, the bowl sat on my shelf demanding a mosaic, but my skills were not up to the task. Every now and again I would make a sample mosaic or a sketch and hold it up to the bowl. Each time the bowl screamed, “No! Not that!”
After many hundreds of hours of practice and a two-year apprenticeship, I was finally ready.
The outside of the bowl is stained glass mosaic which exactly replicates the pattern from the inside, but adds a range of textures that only mosaic can create. The orange shapes are mosaiced in clear glass, revealing and protecting the orange enamel. This allows light to shine through the orange.
